LBA takes out injunction to stop protests at airport

July 19 2024

Leeds Bradford Airport has obtained an injunction against anyone who might ‘cause a nuisance’ by protesting at the airport.

The airport is using the law to stop protest but refuses to stick by the rules for its own operations.

This is the same Leeds Bradford Airport that has broken the night flights rules for two years running and whose boss has openly said he will break the rules again this summer. The airport’s unlawful behaviour is more than a ‘nuisance’ to the thousands of people whose lives are blighted by the noise and air pollution caused by these excessive night flights.

LBA’s unlawful extra night flights also pump out even more greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere, damaging the climate we all depend on, when we all know we must cut emissions as fast as possible. The extreme weather – floods, drought, hurricanes – caused by climate change is not just a ‘nuisance’, it’s a killer. On the same day that LBA got its injunction, the expert scientific advisers on the independent Climate Change Committee repeated their advice to the government: airports should not expand until there is a genuine, large scale solution to the greenhouse gases caused by flying.
