LBA wants to change night flight rules

GALBA vows to fight new night flights application by LBA.

The Group for Action on Leeds Bradford Airport has vowed to fight the latest attempt by Leeds Bradford Airport to fly more planes at night.

Nick Hodgkinson, Chair of GALBA, said: “We are ready to oppose the airport’s latest attempt to fly thousands more planes at night.”

“We will look carefully at the details of LBA’s application and speak to our lawyers soon. But we have made an initial assessment of LBA’s latest plan to change the night flight rules, which includes unlimited numbers of planes taking off from 6am.”

“What LBA wants would mean a huge rise in night flights, especially during the summer months. The current limit of 3,741 summer season night flights would increase to at least 7,500. That would be very bad for the health and wellbeing of thousands of local people trying to get enough sleep to go to work or school the next day.”

“Our priorities are the health of local people, the quality of the air we breathe and the climate we all depend on. These should be the priorities for Leeds councillors too.”
