How to object to LBA’s planning application

There are three ways to make a formal objection to LBA's application - online, by email or letter. Leeds City Council encourages people to use the online process but if you can't do that, send an email or a letter. Keep reading for full guidance.

In the first line, type: LBA, Whitehouse Lane LS19 7TZ and say that you object to the application

See below for suggestions on how to explain why you object.

At the end, give your full name, address and postcode – these details will not be made public.

Important: if you send your objection by email, send it no later than Friday 18 September or it might not be counted.

3) Send a letter by post

Post your letter to: Planning Services, LCC, Merrion House, 110 Merrion Centre, Leeds LS2 8BB.

In the first line, write: 26/04635/FU OBJECTION, LBA, Whitehouse Lane LS19 7TZ.

See below for suggestions on how to explain why you object.

At the end, give your full name, address and postcode – these details will not be made public.

Important: if you send your objection by email, send it no later than Friday 18 September or it might not be counted.

What to say in your objection

Whether you object online, by email or letter, here are some guidelines on what you might want to say. If you’re short of time, keep it brief but please explain in your own words why you object.

IMPORTANT: PLEASE DO NOT SIMPLY COPY THE WORDS BELOW – USE YOUR OWN WORDS.

Objections that use exactly the same words are not counted as individual objections, they are lumped together as one single objection. We need as many distinct, individual objections as possible so please use your own words.

Start by making it clear that you object to LBA’s application, 26/04635/FU. Then explain that you do not want LBA to be allowed to abolish the night flight caps and you do not want the unrestricted daytime flying period to start at 6am and go though to 11.30pm. Then explain why. We’ve put some suggestions below and not all of them may apply to you. Of course, you may not want to use any of these! That’s fine, just explain what you feel is wrong with LBA’s application.

Remember: please use your own words.

  • are you directly affected by aircraft noise, especially at night?
  • do aircraft keep you awake or wake you up at night or in the early hours?
  • do you have children who need a good night’s sleep so they can concentrate at school?
  • do you need a good night’s sleep for the sake of your health, wellbeing and work?
  • are you concerned about the medical evidence that having your sleep repeatedly disturbed is linked to heart disease and stress-related illnesses?
  • are you concerned about air pollution and the well established links between vehicle and jet engine particles and lung disease?
  • do you think that there’s no such thing as a genuinely quiet or clean jet engine, so LBA’s claims mean nothing?
  • are you worried about the effect on the value of your house, which may be your life’s savings intended for your children?
  • do you hate the smell of kerosene fuel from aircraft flying over your home?
  • do you think we should not allow more greenhouse gases to damage the climate and cause extreme weather, especially after the drought and wildfires of this year?
